CLUB HISTORY - Introduction
|
|
The
village of Hafodyrynys has been found to be mentioned as far back as
the 17th century; an important droving road / crossroads. The team
however is somewhat younger but has been found to be referenced as far
back as c.1904; while the earliest match report found was in The Football Argus records of January 1920 when an Hafodyrynys team played
Panteg at home. We’re not sure where the club was playing then or when it
was originally formed but it is thought in c.1926 during the depression the pitch as
we know it today was constructed by filling in two ponds at the site.
In earlier days the local Hafodyrynys Hotel was used as a club house
until later when the Miners Welfare Club was established at the ground
c.1957. There are many questions still not answered about the club but
further investigative work is planned. As pieces of information surface
they will be listed. We would like to ask any
readers of this site to forward any information or memorabilia they have
or discover so we can expand this club history section. Also please bare with us as inaccuracies are bound to creep in now and again as a lot of information is passed down from hand to mouth and time does have a way of distorting things.

Timeline
We will endeavour to add data when it is unearthed and add it to this section in chronological order starting with the oldest information. Where exact dates are missing we will add the circa symbol before the year (c.) and make the best educate estimate available to us. |
|
Layout
The information will be laid to give the best known date, source and/or provider of the information, an event and short description. So go on have a scroll through history.
Don't forget that feedback. It is important to us. Perhaps a relative who does not have internet access may have information which contains some of the secrets necessary to 'crack the code', as it were, to our unanswered questions.
